Description

High-Capacity Through-the-Wall System for Cellars Up to 2,000 Cubic Feet

CellarCool CX8800 Wine Cellar Cooling is Discontinued. Highly Recommended Cooling for up to 2000 cubic feet is the WhisperKOOL SC PRO 8000 Wine Cellar Cooling System.

The CellarCool CX8800 is a high-output, through-the-wall wine cellar cooling system engineered for large residential and light commercial wine rooms.

It delivers 4,754 BTUh of cooling capacity and can maintain 55°F cellar temperature when condenser intake air does not exceed 85°F, provided the room is fully insulated and vapor sealed.

This unit is designed for sustained performance in large thermal-load environments — not small cabinets or decorative wine displays.

Reminder: The CellarCool CX Series Wine Cooling Unit CX8800 requires the area it is releasing or exhausting its hot air doesn't exceed 85°F for your wine cellar to be at 55°F.

Available in CX2200 for 265 cu.ft wine cellar, CX3300 for 650 cu.ft wine cellar, CX4400 for 1000 cu.ft wine cellar, CX8800 for 2000 cu.ft wine cellar

Quick Decision Guide

Choose the CX8800 if:

  • Your cellar is up to 2,000 cubic feet
  • The room is fully insulated and vapor sealed
  • You have proper rear ventilation space
  • You can provide a dedicated 20-amp 115V circuit
  • Noise levels around 68 dBA are acceptable

Do NOT choose the CX8800 if:

  • The cellar is smaller and risks oversizing
  • The unit must vent into a sealed closet
  • The space exceeds 85°F on the condenser side
  • Ultra-quiet operation is required (consider split system)

Correct sizing and installation determine performance.

Cooling Performance & Environmental Limits

Rated Cooling Capacity

  • BTUh: 4,754 (with 85°F condenser air entering coil)
  • Max Cellar Size: 2,000 cubic feet
  • Temperature Delta: Maintains 55°F cellar with up to 85°F condenser intake air

Critical Conditions

The 2,000 cu. ft. rating assumes:

  • R-19 wall insulation (minimum)
  • R-30 ceiling insulation
  • Proper vapor barrier installation
  • Minimal air leakage
  • Limited glass exposure
  • Adequate rear ventilation

If condenser intake air exceeds 85°F, cooling capacity decreases.

Improper room construction reduces system effectiveness.

Installation Requirements

Installation Type

Through-the-wall, partially ducted

Ventilation Requirements

  • Rear exhaust only
  • Must vent into well-ventilated area
  • Cannot vent into sealed mechanical closet
  • Heat must dissipate freely

Restricted ventilation will cause:

  • Reduced cooling performance
  • Compressor overheating
  • Possible warranty void

Electrical Requirements

Specification Value
Voltage Rating 115V
Dedicated Circuit 20 amp required
Running Amps 10 amps
Horsepower 1.86 HP

A dedicated 20-amp circuit is required.
Do not share with lighting or appliances.

Improper electrical supply may result in breaker trips or system damage.

Airflow & Drainage

Specification Value
Airflow (CFM) 216
Drain Line 3/8” condensate (rear location only)

Proper drain routing must be planned during framing.

Noise Levels

Location dBA
Evaporator (cellar side) 68 dBA
Condenser (rear side) 68 dBA

68 dBA is comparable to normal conversation.

Suitable for:

  • Commercial wine rooms
  • Dedicated cellar spaces

Not recommended for:

  • Bedrooms
  • Noise-sensitive residential areas

Physical Specifications

Specification Value
Dimensions (W x H x D) 16.25” x 22” x 22.25”
Weight 74 lbs
Refrigerant R-134a
Thermostat Advanced digital display

Opening dimensions must account for:

  • Structural support
  • Rear clearance
  • Drain line routing

Humidity Considerations

The CX8800 supports stable cellar humidity through evaporator cycling.

However, it does not actively inject humidity.

Humidity stability depends on:

  • Vapor barrier integrity
  • Insulation quality
  • Room sealing

In dry climates, supplemental humidification may be required.

CX8800 vs Smaller CX Models

Model Max Room Size BTUh Best Use
CX6600 Smaller than 2,000 cu. ft. Lower output Mid-size rooms
CX8800 Up to 2,000 cu. ft. 4,754 BTUh Large rooms
Lower CX Models Small residential Lower Compact spaces

Oversizing may cause short cycling.
Undersizing may cause continuous runtime.

Warranty Coverage

Coverage Term
Parts & Labor 2 Years
Compressor 5 Years

Warranty is manufacturer-backed and requires:

  • Proper ventilation
  • Dedicated electrical circuit
  • Installation per manufacturer guidelines

Improper installation may void coverage.

Important Before Ordering

Confirm the following:

  • Room cubic footage
  • Insulation R-values
  • Vapor barrier installation
  • Electrical capacity
  • Rear ventilation availability
  • Ambient temperature of exhaust area

If uncertain, consult a cellar cooling specialist before purchasing.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Cooling performance decreases. The unit may run continuously and struggle to maintain 55°F. Extended high intake temperatures can shorten compressor life.
