Description
Is This the Right Cooling Unit for a 1,000 cu. ft. Wine Cellar?
The WhisperKOOL SC PRO 4000 is a self-contained, through-the-wall wine cellar cooling unit designed for fully insulated and vapor-sealed residential wine cellars up to 1,000 cubic feet.
It is best suited for interior installations where the condenser intake temperature does not exceed 85°F.
If your installation environment regularly exceeds 85°F (such as garages, exterior walls in warm climates, or unconditioned spaces), the WhisperKOOL Extreme Series is recommended instead.
Available in WhisperKOOL SC PRO 2000 for 300 cu.ft. wine cellar, WhisperKOOL SC PRO 3000 for 650 cu.ft. wine cellar, and WhisperKOOL SC PRO 8000 for 1500 cu.ft. wine cellar.
Who the SC PRO 4000 Is Designed For
✔ Residential wine cellars up to 1,000 cu. ft.
✔ Fully insulated rooms with a proper vapor barrier
✔ Interior wall installations
✔ Through-the-wall applications
✔ Projects where a split system is not necessary
When This Unit Is Not the Right Choice
✖ Cellars larger than 1,000 cu. ft.
✖ Condenser intake temperatures above 85°F
✖ Exterior wall installations in hot climates
✖ Commercial or restaurant wine rooms
✖ Poorly insulated spaces
Failure to meet installation requirements may prevent the system from maintaining 55°F.
How the SC PRO 4000 Maintains Stable Wine Storage
1. TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve)
The integrated TXV automatically adjusts refrigerant flow based on real-time heat load conditions.
Why it matters: Improves temperature stability and reduces compressor strain during seasonal temperature changes.
2. Advanced Centrifugal Blower Fans
Replaces traditional axial fans with stronger centrifugal blowers for improved airflow distribution.
Why it matters: Reduces hot spots and temperature layering inside the cellar.
3. Liquid-Temperature Bottle Probe
Measures the actual liquid temperature of your wine rather than just ambient air temperature.
Why it matters: Prevents short cycling and helps maintain ideal aging conditions.
4. Condensate Evaporator
Capable of evaporating up to 3 ounces of condensate per hour under normal conditions.
Why it matters: Reduces reliance on drain lines in low-humidity environments. (A drain line is still recommended.)
5. Digital Controller with System Protection
Front-mounted display includes monitoring alarms and performance safeguards.
Why it matters: Provides visibility into system performance and alerts you to temperature deviations.
Environmental Requirements (Critical for Performance)
To maintain a 55°F cellar temperature:
- Condenser intake air must not exceed 85°F
- The cellar must be fully insulated
- A proper vapor barrier must be installed
- A dedicated 115V / 20-amp circuit is required
If these conditions are not met, cooling performance will decrease.

Final Recommendation
The WhisperKOOL SC PRO 4000 is an appropriate solution for residential wine cellars up to 1,000 cubic feet where environmental and installation conditions meet manufacturer requirements.
If your project involves higher ambient temperatures, exterior exposure, or larger spaces, a higher-capacity or split system will provide more reliable long-term performance.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
It is rated for up to 1,000 cu. ft. in properly insulated environments. Larger spaces may require the SC PRO 8000 or a split system.
Cooling capacity will decrease and the unit may struggle to maintain 55°F. In high-temperature environments, the Extreme Series is recommended.
Yes. A proper vapor barrier is essential to prevent moisture intrusion and cooling inefficiency. Without it, the unit may not maintain set temperature.
Self-contained systems produce more audible operation than split systems because the compressor is housed in the same unit. For near-silent operation, a ducted split system is recommended.
Only if the garage temperature does not exceed 85°F at the condenser intake. Many garages in warm climates exceed this temperature.
The SC PRO 4000 is designed for through-the-wall installation and does not require an HVAC technician. However, proper electrical setup and insulation are essential."]
