Description
Through-the-Wall Self-Contained Wine Cellar Cooling System (Up to 800 Cu. Ft.)
The WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500ti is a self-contained, through-the-wall wine cellar cooling system designed for properly insulated residential wine rooms up to 800 cubic feet. It features variable-speed fans, an advanced digital controller, and a liquid-temperature bottle probe for accurate wine temperature management. The unit can maintain a 55°F cellar temperature even when condenser air intake reaches 110°F, provided the cellar is fully insulated, sealed, and protected with a vapor barrier. Installation requires a 115V 20-amp dedicated circuit and proper ventilation of the condenser side.
Other sizes: WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500ti for 800 cu.ft, WhisperKOOL Extreme 5000 ti for 1250 cu.ft. wine cellar & WhisperKOOL Extreme 8000 ti for 2000 cu.ft wine cellar.
W/ KDT PLUS REMOTE CONTROLLER & THERMOSTAT: WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500tiR Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 800 cu.ft., WhisperKOOL Extreme 5000tiR Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 1250 cu.ft & WhisperKOOL Extreme 8000tiR Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 2000 cu.ft wine cellar.
Is the Extreme 3500ti the Right Cooling Unit for Your Cellar?
The Extreme 3500ti is designed for enclosed residential wine rooms where through-the-wall installation is preferred over split systems.
Best For
- Fully enclosed wine rooms up to 800 cubic feet
- Standard stud-bay installations
- Residential applications
- Projects requiring partial condenser ducting
- Warm climates (up to 110°F condenser intake air)
Not Ideal For
- Cellars larger than 800 cu. ft.
- Open floor plans or passive wine displays
- Glass-dominant designs without upgraded insulation
- Commercial or hospitality applications
- Mechanical rooms exceeding 110°F intake air
- Rooms without a vapor barrier
- Installations without a dedicated 20-amp circuit
If your cellar exceeds 800 cu. ft., includes large glass panels, or has elevated ambient heat, a larger unit such as the Extreme 5000ti should be evaluated.
How the Extreme 3500ti Works
The 3500ti is a self-contained cooling system, meaning both evaporator and condenser components are housed in one unit. It installs directly through a wall, with the evaporator side cooling the cellar and the condenser side exhausting warm air into an adjacent space or outdoors.
Variable-Speed Fans
The variable-speed fans automatically adjust airflow to maintain stable cellar temperatures. This reduces short cycling and helps extend compressor life.
Liquid-Temperature Bottle Probe
The bottle probe measures the liquid temperature of stored wine rather than ambient air. This results in more accurate wine preservation and reduced temperature fluctuation.
Advanced Digital Controller
The front-mounted digital controller monitors system performance and includes built-in protection alerts. It helps prevent freeze-up, overheating, and operational stress on the compressor.
Performance Specifications
Cooling Capacity
- Maximum Cellar Size: 800 cu. ft.*
- BTU Output (85°F condenser air intake): 3,175 BTU/h
- Temperature Differential: Maintains 55°F cellar temperature with up to 110°F condenser intake air
*Capacity assumes a fully insulated, sealed cellar with proper vapor barrier.
Electrical Requirements
- Voltage: 115V
- Circuit Requirement: 20-amp dedicated circuit required
- Running Amps: 9 amps
Failure to provide a dedicated circuit may result in breaker trips or system malfunction.
Physical Specifications
- Dimensions (L × W × H): 28" × 14.25" × 15.75"
- Weight: 115 lbs
- Refrigerant: R-134a
- Drain Line Requirement: 1/2" ID tubing (not included)
Installation Requirements
Proper installation directly impacts system performance and warranty protection.
Insulation Standards
Minimum recommendations:
- Walls: R-19
- Ceiling: R-30
- Door: Fully sealed and insulated
- Vapor barrier: Required on the warm side of the cellar
Insufficient insulation or missing vapor barrier can cause condensation, excessive runtime, and premature failure.
Ventilation & Exterior Installation
- Condenser air intake must not exceed 110°F.
- Exterior wall installations require a protective grille.
- Warm air exhaust must not recirculate back into the condenser.
Improper venting can cause overheating and compressor damage.
Ducting
- Condensing side can be ducted using approved ducting kits.
- Improper duct length or diameter can reduce airflow and cooling capacity.
Heat load calculations should always be performed before selecting a cooling unit.

Final Positioning
The WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500ti is a mechanical cooling system designed for properly constructed residential wine cellars up to 800 cubic feet. It is not a decorative appliance or passive display cooler. Performance depends on insulation quality, correct electrical setup, proper venting, and accurate sizing.
If you are uncertain about your cellar’s heat load, insulation level, or venting configuration, a heat load calculation should be performed before purchase.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
If the cellar exceeds 800 cubic feet or includes high heat-load materials such as glass or stone, the unit may run continuously and fail to maintain 55°F. Undersizing can shorten compressor life. A larger model should be considered.
Yes. A vapor barrier is required to prevent moisture intrusion and condensation. Without one, the unit may experience excessive runtime, reduced efficiency, and potential damage.
It can be vented into an adjacent space only if that space does not exceed 110°F ambient intake temperature. Recirculating warm air back into the condenser will cause overheating and system failure.
The 3500ti is designed for simplified through-the-wall installation and does not always require an HVAC-R technician. However, electrical requirements, insulation standards, and proper venting must be followed.
The unit requires a 115V, 20-amp dedicated circuit. Sharing the circuit with other appliances may result in breaker trips or operational issues.
The system produces mechanical fan and compressor noise typical of through-the-wall cooling systems. It is not silent and should not be installed adjacent to noise-sensitive living areas without planning.
Service life depends on installation quality, insulation, ambient conditions, and maintenance. Properly installed systems typically provide many years of operation, but undersizing and poor ventilation significantly reduce lifespan."]
