Description
Through-the-Wall Self-Contained Cooling System for Cellars up to 1,250 cu. ft.
The WhisperKOOL Extreme 5000ti is a through-the-wall, self-contained wine cellar cooling unit designed for fully insulated cellars up to 1,250 cubic feet. It can maintain a 55°F cellar temperature with condenser air intake temperatures up to 110°F and includes an advanced digital controller with liquid-temperature bottle probe. A dedicated 20-amp circuit is required.
Other sizes: WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500 ti for 800 cu.ft. wine cellar, WhisperKOOL Extreme 5000 ti for 1250 cu.ft. wine cellar & WhisperKOOL Extreme 8000 ti Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 2000 cu.ft wine cellar.
W/ KDT PLUS REMOTE CONTROLLER & THERMOSTAT: WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500tiR Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 800 cu.ft., WhisperKOOL Extreme 5000tiR Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 1250 cu.ft & WhisperKOOL Extreme 8000tiR Self-Contained Cooling Unit for 2000 cu.ft wine cellar.
Is the Extreme 5000ti Right for Your Cellar?
Best For:
- Fully insulated cellars up to 1,250 cu. ft.
- Through-the-wall installations between standard wall studs
- Residential wine rooms with ambient exhaust temperatures below 110°F
- Installations where remote thermostat placement is not required
- Homeowners seeking a self-contained system without split-system complexity
Not Recommended For:
- Glass-enclosed modern cellars without proper insulation
- Spaces without a vapor barrier
- Cellars exceeding 1,250 cu. ft.
- Locations where condenser air temperatures exceed 110°F
- Ultra-quiet luxury installations where split systems are preferred
Installation & Environmental Requirements
The 5000ti is rated at 1,250 cu. ft. under the following assumptions:
- R-19 wall insulation (minimum)
- R-30 ceiling insulation (minimum)
- Fully sealed construction
- Proper vapor barrier installed
- Minimal glass exposure
If insulation or sealing is below these standards, effective capacity will decrease and the unit may short cycle or fail to maintain 55°F.
Electrical Requirements
- 115V
- 20-amp dedicated circuit required
- 230V available (subject to availability)
Electrical installation must comply with local code.
Ventilation Requirements
The condenser side can:
- Exhaust directly into an adjacent space below 110°F
- Be vented outdoors (exterior grille recommended)
- Be ducted if ventilation space is restricted
If condenser air exceeds 110°F, performance will decline and compressor strain may occur.
Key Engineering Features (Explained)
Variable-Speed Fans
Allow airflow adjustment based on cellar load and ambient conditions. This reduces short cycling and improves temperature stability in properly sized installations.
Through-the-Wall Design
Fits between standard wall studs for simplified installation without split-system components.
Advanced Digital Controller
Mounted on the unit. Includes Advanced System Protection Technology with monitoring probes that protect against overheating and system stress.
Liquid-Temperature Bottle Probe (50 ft. cable)
Measures the actual temperature of the wine rather than air temperature, reducing compressor cycling and temperature swings.
55°F Temperature Delta
Designed to maintain 55°F cellar temperature with condenser intake temperatures up to 110°F. Not intended for environments exceeding this limit.
Fully Ductable Condenser Side
Allows redirecting exhaust air when direct venting is not possible.

Important Sizing Notice
Each wine cellar has unique heat loads influenced by:
- Glass exposure
- Insulation quality
- Ceiling height
- Door type
- Ambient room temperature
- Lighting and occupancy
A formal heat load calculation is recommended before final system selection.
Oversizing can cause short cycling. Undersizing can prevent temperature stability.
Final Buying Guidance
Confirm the following before purchasing:
- Proper insulation and vapor barrier are installed
- Cellar volume does not exceed 1,250 cu. ft.
- Exhaust ventilation space remains below 110°F
- A dedicated 20-amp circuit is available
If these conditions are met, the Extreme 5000ti is an effective and straightforward cooling solution for mid-size residential wine cellars.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes. The system assumes a fully insulated cellar with a properly installed vapor barrier. Without one, condensation, mold growth, and compressor overwork may occur.
Yes, if the garage temperature does not exceed 110°F. If garage temperatures exceed this limit, ducting or alternative ventilation is required.
No. The rating assumes R-19 wall insulation, R-30 ceiling insulation, sealed construction, and minimal glass. Poor insulation reduces effective cooling capacity.
The unit is designed for simplified installation, but electrical work must meet local code and may require a licensed electrician. Ducting installations may also require professional assistance.
The unit may short cycle, run continuously, or fail to maintain 55°F. A larger system such as the Extreme 8000ti may be required.
The 5000ti has a controller mounted on the unit. The 5000tiR allows remote thermostat placement outside the cellar. Performance specifications are otherwise similar."]
