WhisperKOOL Platinum Split 8000 Ducted 220V High-Efficiency Wine Cellar Cooling System
Designed for Fully Insulated Wine Cellars Up to 1,750 Cubic Feet
The WhisperKOOL Platinum Split 8000 Ducted 220V High-Efficiency system is engineered for properly constructed residential or commercial wine cellars up to approximately 1,750 cubic feet.
This system is designed for projects that require:
- Remote condenser placement (up to 100 line feet away)
- Reduced noise inside the cellar
- Flexible ducted installation
- 220V high-efficiency operation
- Stable performance in warm climates
Heat load calculations should always be performed prior to selecting a cooling system.
Available in WhisperKOOL Platinum Split 8000 110V Condenser & Platinum Split 8000 220V Condenser for 1750 cu.ft.
Other Sizes: Available in WhisperKOOL Platinum Split 4000 220V H.E. for 1000 cu.ft. wine cellar and WhisperKOOL Platinum Split Twin 220V H.E. for 3000 cu.ft. wine cellar.
Is This System Right for Your Cellar?
The Platinum Split 8000 is appropriate when:
✔ The cellar is fully insulated (minimum R-19 walls recommended)
✔ A continuous vapor barrier is installed
✔ The cellar volume does not exceed 1,750 cu. ft.
✔ A 220V dedicated 15-amp circuit is available
✔ The condenser can be installed in a ventilated environment
✔ Duct routing allows proper airflow design
This system may not be appropriate when:
✘ The cellar exceeds 1,750 cu. ft.
✘ Large uninsulated glass walls are present
✘ Insulation or vapor barrier is incomplete
✘ Ambient condenser intake frequently exceeds 120°F
✘ No HVAC-R installer is available
Improper insulation and missing vapor barriers are the most common causes of cooling performance issues.
System Configuration
This is a split ducted system consisting of:
- Evaporator Unit installed inside or near the cellar
- Condensing Unit installed remotely (up to 100 line feet away)
The ducted configuration allows the cooling equipment to remain discreet and reduces direct sound exposure inside the wine room.
Cooling Performance
Cooling capacity varies based on condenser air intake temperature and fan speed.
8000 Model Cooling Output (Sensible / Total BTU)
| Condenser Air Intake | Fan Speed | Sensible BTU | Total BTU |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60°F | Medium | 4,565 | 5,273 |
| 75°F | Medium | 4,177 | 4,561 |
| 85°F | Medium | 3,957 | 4,315 |
Performance Notes
- Higher condenser air temperatures reduce total cooling capacity.
- Proper condenser ventilation improves system efficiency.
- Sensible BTU represents temperature reduction only.
- Total BTU includes humidity management capacity.
Wine storage requires both temperature stability and controlled humidity to preserve cork integrity and aging conditions.
Operating Conditions
The Platinum Split 8000 can maintain a 55°F cellar temperature with condenser air intake temperatures up to 120°F, provided:
- The cellar is fully insulated
- A continuous vapor barrier is installed
- Heat load does not exceed system design capacity
Extreme heat exposure, glass-heavy construction, or under-insulated spaces may require a larger system.
Sound Levels
Evaporator noise level: 56–62 dBA (varies by fan speed)
Ducted configuration significantly reduces audible presence inside the cellar compared to self-contained systems. Actual sound levels depend on installation design.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes. A continuous vapor barrier is required for proper operation. Without a vapor barrier, warm air and moisture infiltrate the cellar, increasing system workload and potentially preventing the unit from maintaining 55°F. Improper vapor sealing is one of the most common causes of cooling system failure.
It depends on insulation and total heat load. Large glass surfaces significantly increase thermal gain. If the glass is not insulated or thermally rated, a larger system such as a Twin model may be required. A professional heat load calculation is strongly recommended for glass-heavy installations.
If installed in an oversized space, the system may run continuously, fail to reach temperature, and experience premature wear. Oversizing or upgrading to a higher-capacity model is recommended when cellar volume exceeds 1,750 cu. ft.
No. Installation by a qualified HVAC-R technician is required to maintain warranty coverage. Proper refrigerant charging, line sizing, and airflow design are critical to system performance.
The 220V High-Efficiency condenser operates with improved electrical efficiency and is better suited for demanding installations. It provides stable performance with reduced amperage draw compared to standard 110V configurations.
Yes. Cooling capacity decreases as condenser intake temperature increases. For example, total BTU output at 85°F intake is lower than at 60°F intake. Proper condenser ventilation improves system performance and efficiency."]
