Description
Fully Ducted Cooling for Large Wine Cellars Up to 4,000 Cubic Feet
The WhisperKOOL Quantum SS12000 220V High Efficiency is a commercial-grade ducted split wine cellar cooling system engineered for large residential and commercial wine cellars up to approximately 4,000 cubic feet, provided the space is fully insulated and sealed with a proper vapor barrier.
This system separates the evaporator (installed inside the cellar) from the condenser (installed remotely), allowing for quiet operation, concealed airflow, and flexible installation options.
A professional heat load calculation is recommended before selecting this system.
Available in WhisperKOOL Quantum SS12000 220V Copeland Condenser for 4000 cu.ft wine cellar.
Other Sizes: WhisperKOOL Quantum SS9000 220V High-Efficiency Condenser for 3000 cu.ft wine cellar.
Who This System Is Designed For
The Quantum SS12000 is appropriate for:
- Wine cellars up to 4,000 cu. ft.
- Commercial wine storage environments
- Fully insulated, vapor-sealed builds
- Remote condenser installations (up to 100 ft line set)
- Fully ducted systems with no visible equipment inside cellar
- High ambient climates (up to 120°F condenser intake)
- Glass wine walls when properly load-calculated
Who Should NOT Use This System
This system may not be appropriate if:
- The cellar lacks a vapor barrier
- Insulation is below recommended R-values
- Duct runs exceed 35 ft per supply or return
- Mechanical room ventilation is inadequate
- Installation will not be performed by a licensed HVAC-R technician
- The space is significantly smaller than 4,000 cu. ft. (oversizing may cause short cycling)
Improper sizing or installation can lead to temperature instability, humidity imbalance, compressor strain, and premature system failure.
Cooling Performance & Capacity
Rated Cellar Capacity
Up to 4,000 cu. ft. (when fully insulated and vapor sealed)
Cooling Output (BTU/h – Sensible / Total)
| Condenser Intake Temperature | Sensible BTU | Total BTU |
|---|---|---|
| 60°F | 12,147 | 14,576 |
| 75°F | 12,187 | 14,256 |
| 85°F | 11,704 | 13,844 |
Sensible vs Total Capacity:
Sensible BTU measures temperature removal. Total BTU includes both temperature and latent moisture removal. Proper wine storage requires stable temperature and controlled humidity, making both ratings important.
Extreme Climate Performance
The 220V High Efficiency condenser is engineered to maintain a 55°F cellar temperature with condenser air intake temperatures up to 120°F.
Suitable for:
- Southern and desert climates
- Mechanical rooms with elevated heat
- Outdoor condenser placement (with exterior housing)
Airflow & Ducting Requirements
Airflow (Multi-Speed Fan)
- 590 CFM (Low)
- 650 CFM (Medium)
- 710 CFM (High)
Higher airflow may be required for:
- Dense racking layouts
- High glass exposure
- Long duct runs
- Elevated heat loads
Duct Specifications
- 14" Supply
- 14" Return
- Maximum 35 ft per duct run
Exceeding duct length or reducing duct diameter can reduce system performance and increase static pressure.
Electrical Requirements
- Evaporator: 120V (15-amp dedicated circuit required)
- Condenser: 220V (15-amp dedicated circuit required)
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC-R technician. Failure to meet electrical and installation requirements voids manufacturer warranty.
Installation Parameters
- Evaporator installed inside cellar
- Condenser may be installed up to 100 ft from evaporator
- Line Set:
- Liquid Line: 3/8" OD
- Suction Line: 5/8" OD (under 50 ft), 3/4" OD (over 50 ft)
- Drain Line: 3/4" CPVC/PVC
- Requires ventilated mechanical environment
Performance may decrease if installation guidelines are not followed.
Noise Levels
- Evaporator: 52 dBA
- Condenser: 52 dBA
52 dBA is comparable to a quiet residential refrigerator. Because this is a fully ducted system, mechanical noise inside the cellar is minimized.
Mechanical Specifications
- Compressor: 1.5 HP
- Refrigerant: R-134a
- Weight:
- Evaporator: 96 lbs
- Condenser: 84 lbs

Construction Requirements
This system assumes:
- Minimum 6 mil polyethylene vapor barrier
- Climate-appropriate insulation levels
- Sealed penetrations
- Properly sealed cellar door
- No shared HVAC return air
Failure to meet construction standards will compromise cooling performance regardless of system capacity.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Exceeding 35 ft per duct run can reduce airflow efficiency and cooling performance. Improper duct design increases static pressure and may strain the system.
Yes, but glass significantly increases heat load. Additional cooling capacity or engineering review may be required.
The system removes latent heat as part of total BTU capacity, but humidity performance depends heavily on insulation, vapor barrier integrity, and overall cellar construction.
Yes. The system must be installed by a licensed HVAC-R technician. Failure to do so voids the manufacturer warranty.
Up to 100 ft line set distance when properly sized and installed according to manufacturer specifications.
If your cellar is significantly under 4,000 cu. ft., a smaller system may prevent short cycling and humidity imbalance. A heat load calculation is recommended before selecting this unit."]
