Description
Breezaire WKL 2200 Wine Cellar Cooling Unit (Up to 265 Cu Ft)
The Breezaire WKL 2200 is a through-the-wall wine cellar cooling unit designed for enclosed, insulated wine rooms up to 265 cubic feet. It delivers 2200 BTU of cooling power, features automatic humidity management, and operates on standard 115V power. It is intended for properly constructed residential wine cellars with rear ventilation space.
Is the Breezaire WKL 2200 Right for Your Wine Cellar?
The WKL 2200 is best suited for fully enclosed, insulated wine cellars 265 cubic feet or smaller where a simple through-the-wall installation is preferred.
It is not designed for open rooms, glass-heavy wine displays, or poorly insulated spaces.
If your cellar exceeds 265 cubic feet, a larger capacity model is required.
Also available in Breezaire WKL 1060 for up to 140 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 3000 for up to 650 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 4000 for up to 1000 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 6000 for up to 1500 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 8000 for up to 2000 cu. ft. wine cellar.

Best For
- Residential wine cellars up to 265 cu ft
- Under-stair or closet conversions
- Basement wine rooms with insulation
- Installations where rear exhaust ventilation is available
- Collectors storing wine at 50–65°F for long-term aging
Not Ideal For
- Cellars over 265 cubic feet
- Uninsulated rooms
- Glass wine rooms without thermal correction
- Exterior wall installations exposed to outdoor conditions
- Spaces without rear ventilation clearance
How the WKL 2200 Works
The WKL 2200 is a self-contained through-the-wall system.
It pulls warm air from the cellar, cools it using internal refrigeration components, and exhausts heat through the rear of the unit into an adjacent ventilated space.
Because the condenser is integrated, installation is simpler than a split system, but rear clearance is required.

Manuals for Breezaire WKL 2200
What “Up to 265 Cubic Feet” Actually Means
The 265 cu ft rating assumes:
- Minimum R-19 wall insulation
- R-30 ceiling insulation recommended
- Proper vapor barrier installation
- Sealed wine cellar door
- Minimal uninsulated glass
- Moderate ambient temperature conditions
If insulation is below recommended levels, the effective cooling capacity decreases.
An undersized unit may:
- Run continuously
- Struggle to reach 55°F
- Experience shortened lifespan
Proper cellar construction is critical for performance.

Installation Requirements
The WKL 2200 requires:
- A sealed wine cellar enclosure
- Rear exhaust clearance into a ventilated space
- Standard 115V outlet
- Proper insulation and vapor barrier
It should not exhaust into:
- Small sealed closets
- Unventilated wall cavities
- Exterior spaces exposed to weather
Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper sealing and ventilation.
Temperature & Humidity Management
The WKL 2200 is engineered for wine storage conditions, not comfort cooling.
It is designed to maintain:
- 50°F to 65°F temperature range
- Automatic humidity management
- Reduced vibration compared to standard air conditioners
Stable temperature is essential to prevent cork drying, oxidation, and premature aging.
Noise Expectations
As a self-contained system, the WKL 2200 produces moderate operational noise typical of through-the-wall cooling units.
For ultra-quiet cellar applications, a split system model may be more appropriate.
WKL 2200 vs Larger Models
| Feature | WKL 2200 | Larger Capacity Models |
|---|---|---|
| Max Capacity | 265 cu ft | 300+ cu ft |
| Installation | Through-the-wall | Through-the-wall or split |
| Best For | Small cellars | Medium to large cellars |
If your cellar approaches 265 cu ft, upsizing may provide more consistent performance.
When the WKL 2200 Will Not Perform Properly
The unit may struggle if:
- The cellar exceeds 265 cubic feet
- Insulation is inadequate
- There is significant uninsulated glass
- Rear ventilation is restricted
- Ambient conditions exceed manufacturer limits
Sizing accuracy is essential before purchase.
