Description

Through-the-Wall Cooling System for Cellars Up to 2,000 Cubic Feet

The Breezaire WKL 8000 is a self-contained, through-the-wall wine cellar cooling unit designed for properly insulated wine rooms up to 2,000 cubic feet.

It delivers 8,000 BTU of cooling capacity, features automatic humidity management, rear exhaust configuration, and electronic digital temperature controls. It is engineered specifically for long-term wine storage and stable cellar climate control.

Also available in Breezaire WKL 1060 for up to 140 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 2200 for up to 265 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 3000 for up to 650 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 4000 for up to 1000 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 6000 for up to 1500 cu. ft. wine cellar.

Is the Breezaire WKL 8000 Right for Your Cellar?

This unit is appropriate if:

  • Your cellar is 1,200–2,000 cubic feet
  • The room is fully enclosed with a vapor barrier
  • Insulation meets recommended standards (typically R-19 walls, R-30 ceiling)
  • You have rear ventilation space available
  • You prefer a self-contained, single-piece system

This unit may NOT be appropriate if:

  • Your cellar exceeds 2,000 cubic feet
  • The space includes extensive uninsulated glass
  • The cellar opens into another room without sealing
  • You cannot provide ventilation for rear exhaust
  • Ultra-quiet performance is required (consider a split system)

Performance depends heavily on proper cellar construction.

Cooling Performance & Climate Control

  • Cooling Capacity: Up to 2,000 cubic feet
  • BTU Output: 8,000 BTU
  • Temperature Control: Electronic with LED digital readout
  • Humidity Control: Automatic
  • Defrost System: Automatic

Unlike standard comfort air conditioning systems, the WKL 8000 is designed to maintain stable wine storage temperatures without aggressive short cycling.

Recommended wine storage range: 50°F–59°F

Proper insulation and vapor sealing are required for accurate temperature stability.

Installation Overview

The WKL 8000 is a through-the-wall, self-contained cooling unit. The evaporator and condenser are housed in a single chassis.

Installation Requirements

  • Framed wall opening
  • Rear exhaust ventilation space
  • 115 V, 60 Hz – 10 A electrical supply
  • Adequate structural support (unit weight: 101 lbs)
  • Proper vapor barrier and insulation

Exhaust Requirements

The unit exhausts warm air from the rear. The exhaust area must allow warm air to dissipate freely. Installation into sealed closets or confined spaces without airflow will reduce efficiency and may shorten lifespan.

Noise Profile

As a self-contained system, the WKL 8000 produces compressor and airflow sound typical of through-the-wall units.

Best suited for:

  • Basement wine rooms
  • Dedicated cellar spaces
  • Mechanical-adjacent installations

If the cellar is located within a primary living space where low noise is critical, a split system should be considered.

Common Sizing and Installation Mistakes

Selecting the wrong unit size is the most common cause of performance issues.

Avoid:

  • Choosing based on bottle count instead of cubic footage
  • Ignoring ceiling height
  • Underestimating glass load
  • Failing to insulate properly
  • Venting into confined spaces
  • Installing without a vapor barrier

If unsure, calculate cellar cubic footage before selecting a model.

When to Choose a Different Model

Choose a smaller WKL model if:

  • Your cellar is under 1,200 cubic feet

Choose a split system if:

  • Noise reduction is a priority
  • The condenser must be located remotely
  • Ventilation space is limited
