Description
6,000 BTU Through-the-Wall Cooling for Large Insulated Wine Cellars (Up to 1,500 Cu. Ft.)
The Breezaire WKL 6000 is a self-contained, through-the-wall wine cellar cooling system designed for properly insulated and sealed wine rooms up to approximately 1,500 cubic feet under standard residential conditions.
With 6,000 BTU of cooling power, electronic controls, and automatic humidity management, it is the highest-capacity model in the WKL series.
This unit is designed for enclosed residential wine cellars — not open rooms or decorative glass displays.
Also available in Breezaire WKL 1060 for up to 140 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 2200 for up to 265 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 3000 for up to 650 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 4000 for up to 1000 cu. ft. wine cellar, Breezaire WKL 8000 for up to 2000 cu. ft. wine cellar.
Quick Applicability Check
The WKL 6000 Is Appropriate If:
- Your cellar is 1,000–1,500 cubic feet
- The room is fully enclosed
- Walls are insulated (R19 minimum recommended)
- Ceiling is insulated (R30 recommended)
- A vapor barrier is installed
- The door is sealed and insulated
- Rear ventilation space is available
The WKL 6000 Is NOT Appropriate If:
- The cellar exceeds 1,500 cu. ft.
- The room has large, uninsulated glass walls
- The exhaust will vent into a sealed closet
- Ambient temperatures regularly exceed 85°F
- The cellar is not properly insulated
- The space is open to another room
If your project includes heavy glass, high ceilings, or marginal insulation, a load calculation should be performed before purchasing.

Cooling Capacity & Performance Assumptions
BTU Cooling: 6,000 BTU
Rated Capacity: Up to 1,500 cu. ft.
Capacity is based on:
- 75°F ambient room temperature
- Proper insulation and vapor barrier
- Airtight construction
- Standard residential heat load
If these conditions are not met, effective cooling capacity decreases.
The WKL 6000 is engineered for continuous operation and stable wine storage temperatures — unlike comfort air conditioners.
Installation Overview
Installation Type: Through-the-Wall
Exhaust Direction: Rear
The WKL 6000 mounts directly through the cellar wall and exhausts warm air out the rear.
Installation Requirements:
- Adequate rear ventilation (heat must dissipate freely)
- No sealed or confined exhaust spaces
- Structural wall framing support
- 115V / 60 Hz electrical supply
- 9.5 amp draw
- Dedicated circuit recommended
Improper ventilation is the most common cause of underperformance.
Professional installation is recommended but not mandatory for experienced contractors.
Humidity Management
The WKL 6000 includes automatic humidity control designed to preserve proper wine storage conditions in a sealed cellar.
It does not add moisture but helps prevent excessive drying when the room is properly constructed.
In dry climates, a supplemental humidifier may be required.
Noise Expectations
As a high-capacity, self-contained through-the-wall unit, the WKL 6000 produces moderate operational sound typical of this installation type.
If near-silent performance is required, a split system with a remote condenser may be more appropriate.
When the WKL 6000 May Underperform
Performance issues are typically environmental.
Common causes:
- No vapor barrier
- Excessive glass surface area
- Poor insulation
- Improper door seal
- Rear exhaust into confined space
- Ambient temperatures above rated conditions
- Cellar volume exceeding 1,500 cu. ft.
If the cellar construction does not meet wine storage standards, the unit may struggle to maintain target temperature.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
No. The exhaust must vent into a well-ventilated space that allows heat to dissipate. Confined spaces cause overheating and reduced performance.
It produces moderate sound typical of self-contained through-the-wall cooling systems. For quieter operation, a split system with a remote condenser is recommended.
No. It preserves humidity in a properly sealed cellar but does not actively add moisture. Supplemental humidification may be needed in dry climates.
The WKL 6000 is rated for up to approximately 1,500 cubic feet in a properly insulated and sealed wine cellar. Poor insulation, high ambient temperatures, or excessive glass will reduce effective capacity.
It operates on 115V and draws 9.5 amps. A dedicated circuit is recommended to ensure consistent performance and prevent breaker trips.
The unit may run continuously and fail to maintain target temperature. Oversized rooms require a higher-capacity or split system solution."]
