Wine Cellar Cooling for Rooms Up to 500 Cubic Feet
The WhisperKOOL Mini Ceiling Mount 220V High Efficiency is a ductless split wine cellar cooling system designed for fully insulated wine rooms up to 500 cubic feet.
This system is ideal when wall space must be preserved and a flush ceiling-mounted evaporator is preferred. The condenser installs remotely, reducing cellar noise and heat.
Professional HVAC-R installation is required to maintain warranty coverage.
Available in WhisperKOOL Ceiling Mount Mini Split 110V Condenser & Mini Ceiling Mount 220V for 500 cu.ft.
Other Sizes: WhisperKOOL Ceiling Mount 4000 220V H.E. for 1000 cu.ft. wine cellar, WhisperKOOL Ceiling Mount 8000 220V H.E. for 2000 cu.ft. wine cellar, WhisperKOOL Ceiling Mount Twin 9000 220V H.E. for 3000 cu.ft. wine cellar and WhisperKOOL Ceiling Mount Twin 12000 220V H.E. for 3500 cu. ft.
Quick Decision Summary
Best For:
- Residential wine cellars up to 500 cu. ft.
- Fully insulated rooms (R-19 walls, R-30 ceiling minimum)
- Cellars with a sealed vapor barrier
- Projects requiring a ductless split system
- Installations where wall space must be preserved
Not Ideal For:
- Cellars larger than 500 cu. ft.
- Rooms with extensive glass
- Uninsulated or partially insulated spaces
- Installations without a vapor barrier
- Poorly ventilated condenser environments
Heat load calculations should always be performed prior to selecting a cooling system.

How the Mini Ceiling Mount System Works
This split system includes two primary components:
1. Evaporator (Inside the Cellar)
- Flush-mounted between ceiling joists
- Draws warm air that naturally rises
- Cools and redistributes air evenly
- Operates at 46–52 dBA depending on fan speed
- Weight: 35 lbs
- Dimensions: 25.05" L x 11.34" W x 11.17" H
2. Condenser (Installed Remotely)
- Can be installed up to 100 line feet from evaporator
- Must be installed in a ventilated area
- Operates at approximately 51 dBA
- Weight: 51 lbs
- Dimensions: 31.18" L x 10.75" W x 21.18" H
No ducting is required.
Cooling Performance
Cooling capacity depends on condenser air intake temperature.
| Condenser Air Temp | Fan Speed | Sensible BTU/h | Total BTU/h |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60°F | Low | 2442 | 3131 |
| 60°F | Medium | 2564 | 3288 |
| 75°F | Low | 2132 | 2592 |
| 75°F | Medium | 2239 | 2722 |
| 85°F | Low | 2084 | 2514 |
| 85°F | Medium | 2188 | 2640 |
The system can maintain a 55°F cellar temperature with condenser intake air temperatures up to 120°F, provided the cellar is properly constructed.
Performance declines if condenser ventilation is inadequate.
Electrical Specifications
- Voltage: 220V
- Dedicated 15 amp circuit required
- Running Amps: 1
- LRA: 5.3
- RLA: 1.55
- FLA: 17
- Refrigerant: R-134a
Installation by a licensed HVAC-R technician is required.
Controls & Monitoring
- Advanced digital display (50 ft cable included)
- Liquid-temperature measuring bottle probe (retractable cable)
- Optional 24V thermostat conversion kit
- Customer must supply compatible 24V thermostat
- Selecting this option removes the standard WhisperKOOL control and bottle probe
The bottle probe measures liquid temperature rather than ambient air, providing a more accurate reflection of wine storage conditions.
Drain Requirements
-
1/2" ID clear plastic tubing (not included)
Installation Requirements
For proper operation and longevity, the cellar must include:
- R-19 minimum wall insulation
- R-30 minimum ceiling insulation
- Continuous vapor barrier on warm side
- Sealed door and penetrations
- Proper condenser ventilation
- Minimal glass exposure unless compensated in heat load calculation
Improper construction may result in:
- Inability to maintain 55°F
- Excess compressor cycling
- Condensation issues
- Reduced system lifespan
Warranty
Two-Year Limited Warranty (Parts and Labor)
Professional installation required for warranty validity.

When to Choose This Model
Choose the Mini Ceiling Mount 220V if:
- Your cellar is 500 cu. ft. or smaller
- You want a clean ceiling-mounted design
- You prefer a ductless split system
- You need remote condenser placement
- Noise reduction inside the cellar is important
If your cellar exceeds 500 cubic feet or includes significant glass, a higher-capacity model should be evaluated.
Final Recommendation
The WhisperKOOL Mini Ceiling Mount 220V High Efficiency split system is a strong solution for small, properly constructed wine cellars where space efficiency and remote condenser placement are priorities.
It is not designed for oversized, glass-heavy, or poorly insulated rooms.
Proper cellar construction and professional installation are essential to achieve consistent 55°F storage conditions and long-term system performance.

📚 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes. A vapor barrier is required to prevent moisture migration and thermal instability. Without a properly installed vapor barrier, cooling performance will decline and condensation issues may occur.
No. The system is rated for cellars up to 500 cubic feet under proper insulation conditions. Installing it in a larger space may prevent it from maintaining 55°F and can cause premature system wear.
Yes. The evaporator operates between 46–52 dBA depending on fan speed. The condenser operates at approximately 51 dBA and is installed remotely from the cellar.
No. Installation by a licensed HVAC-R technician is required to maintain warranty coverage and ensure proper refrigerant handling and system charging.
Cooling capacity decreases as condenser air intake temperature rises. The unit is rated for intake temperatures up to 120°F. Poor ventilation or excessive heat may reduce performance and increase system stress.
The system removes some moisture as part of the cooling process. However, humidity performance depends on cellar construction, insulation, and vapor barrier integrity."]
